design leadership

A few things about me:

I'm a user experience design director, leader, mentor, coach, strategic partner, conceptual and systems thinker. I am currently a UX Director at Expedia Group, managing a product design team focused on experience foundations for supply (B2B) parters. My team delivers experiences for onboarding, core controls, performance, and revenue management, as well as navigation and home pages for our core online travel experiences for Expedia's lodging business partners.

Before joining Expedia I designed products for Microsoft for 11 years, I taught design at the Technical University of Eindhoven (in The Netherlands) and was a UX designer and manager at Philips Design for 12 years. I've always believed that design is the best job; it is the most interesting combination of envisioning the future, understanding and empathizing with people, being creative, working with new technologies, building cool stuff, and solving hard problems.

I am passionate about how human-centered design can enhance the power of technology to improve people's lives. Design thinking can help make the world a better place. My work is motivated by the idea that the choices we make as we build products have a profound effect on whether technology ultimately helps or hinders people's digital experiences.

As a leader, I believe in creating an environment that encourages people to be themselves at work - to unlock the potential in all of us and create teams with true diversity. I am fascinated by the challenge of creating high performing design teams and the power they bring to organizations.

I play an important role in helping product teams do great work and have fun at the same time; strong teams that love their work and enjoy doing it build the best products.
